This was a full-home carpet project for a custom home builder I had worked with before. I first met this client while working at Floor & Decor, where I guided him through a large materials purchase. When I later moved to CS Floors, I reconnected with him directly and completed the carpet project for one of his homes. It is proof that strong product guidance and trust carry forward — a client will follow the person who made their decisions feel clear and safe.
The client needed a professional, dependable flooring solution for a custom home — and a process he could trust. He needed someone who understood product value, could guide carpet selection with confidence, communicate clearly at every stage, and follow through from product choice to completion. For a builder, flooring affects budget, timeline, and the quality his own clients judge him by.
I supported the client through flooring and product guidance, communication, follow-up, and coordination — owning the relationship from re-connection through delivery. Equal parts product expertise and service: helping him compare options, understand value, and feel confident at each decision point, then making sure the project actually reached completion.
I treated the project the same way I structure a user flow.
Reached back out to a past client, re-established trust, and listened to the home's flooring needs, budget, and timeline.
Walked him through carpet options — explaining value, durability, and fit so the choice felt clear rather than overwhelming.
Helped him commit to the right product for the home, with honest expectations about cost and outcome.
Managed communication and the steps between decision and installation so nothing stalled or got lost.
Stayed with the project through delivery, keeping the client informed and the process calm.
Delivered a finished flooring service the client could rely on — and a relationship that can return.
The client moves from need, to comparison, to decision, to delivery — the same path a user takes through a website or app. The skills are the same: reduce cognitive load, guide attention, build trust at each step, set honest expectations, and remove friction between intent and action. This is why my design background is not only academic — I have watched real people hesitate, compare, trust, and decide, and I design digital experiences with that same understanding of how decisions really happen.
A client I first served at one company chose to follow me to another and let me deliver his home's carpet project — the clearest evidence of the trust this work is built on.
It follows the person, not the storefront. The most valuable thing I offer is not a product but a clear, calm decision process — and service work and UX thinking overlap closely.
Next time I would capture the selection options, the comparison, and before/after photos (with client permission) so the proof is as clear as the process.
